2D & 3D Pantograph Gauging
Accurate pantograph gauging can significantly reduce the scopeof route clearance works—particularly at critical interfaces between the pantograph and overhead structures. In scenarios where every millimetre matters, traditional 2D cell-based methods results in conservative profiles. These approaches often overlook key factors such as track gradients, change in super elevation, undulations in overline structure profiles and asymmetry, which are not adequately represented in 2D environments.
Digitality Solutions offers assured, high-fidelity 3D pantograph models or can work with you to develop custom software that enables you to configure and generate your own parameter-driven 3D gauging tools.
Signal Exclusion Volumes
Signal sighting is a critical process in the design phase, ensuring that all new assets—whether temporary works or final installations—do not obstruct the visibility of existing or proposed signals.
Traditionally, 2D sight lines are projected from signal aspects to identify areas that could impede visibility. However, these 2D exclusion zones fail to account for the height of proposed structures or assets, potentially overlooking key visibility issues.
The goal is clear: design with zero sighting obscurations and achieve signal sighting approval with minimal rework.
By accurately modelling the driver’s eye point on approach to a signal—including considerations such as track super elevation—a 3D exclusion volume can be generated. Any existing or proposed assets that intrude into this volume may result in sighting conflicts.
This 3D approach allows for early identification of sighting issues, helping ensure compliant visibility is maintained well in advance of formal sighting committee approval.
